Sale
The sales transaction is used if you want to immediately debit the amount for purchased goods or services from the payment card owner.
Example: A client comes in for coffee and lemonade and spends a total of CZK 200. You enter this amount into the terminal in a sales transaction and it is immediately debited from the customer's account.
Cancel
The cancellation transaction allows you to cancel any transaction no older than 95 days. For example, when making a transaction, selling at the wrong amount, etc.
Example: A customer has purchased shoes from you for 1500 CZK. A few hours later, they come back to you and say they changed their mind about the purchase. You can then find the original transaction in the terminal and cancel it for the customer. The original amount is then returned to the customer's card and deducted from your account.
Return / Refund
The return transaction is used in the case of returning paid goods back to the merchant and returning the funds for the goods back to the client's account. It has no connection to the card with which the payment was made - the amount can therefore be returned to any card.
Example: You have sold goods to a client with a deposit on the packaging and now you want to return the deposit for the packaging. You perform a return transaction by entering the amount for the packaging and the client presents the card to which the deposit will be returned.
Deadline
Each transaction you create belongs to a so-called batch. Each batch, like a receipt, has its own number and is essentially a package of transactions. Closing is an administrative operation by which the terminal closes each batch and notifies the systems to close the batch and open a new one. It is an administrative action that some payment providers require and some do not.
Example: You are a non-stop bar. At the end of the shift you want to print a summary of all payments for your shift. You perform a closing that will provide you with this list. A new batch is automatically opened for the next shift.
Pre-authorization
This involves blocking an amount on the customer's card/account. This means that you do not immediately withdraw the amount, but you reserve it for a certain period of time. The usual maximum blocking period depends on the card issuer, but is usually 7 - 30 days.
Example: A client arrives at the hotel and I need to block his card for spending at the bar. So I pre-authorize him for a deposit of 500 CZK.
Pre-authorization increase
If you want to increase the original pre-authorization amount, this transaction is for that. You can increase the amount several times.
Example: The customer already has a pre-authorization for 500 CZK. Because he wants to go to the sauna, you can increase his deposit for the sauna visit by another 400 CZK. So you will increase the pre-authorization by 400 CZK and the total blocked amount on his account will be 900 CZK.
Completion of pre-authorization
It is used to process the pre-authorization and all its increases in this one transaction. It is not possible to finalize for a higher amount than the pre-authorized amount.
Example: The client leaves the hotel at the end of their stay. They did not consume anything from the bar (they did not spend any of the 500 CZK deposit), but they used up the entire amount of 400 CZK in the sauna. So you end the pre-authorization at 400 CZK. As a result, 400 CZK is debited from the client's account and 500 CZK is released to their account. The release time depends on the card issuer.
Cashback
A "Cashback" transaction is a combination of a "Sale" and a "Cash Withdrawal" transaction. When paying for a purchase over a certain amount set by the bank, the cardholder can request cash back. The transaction is intended for Mastercard and VISA card products.
Example: A client makes a purchase from you for 1000 CZK and wants to withdraw another 400 CZK. You create a Cashback transaction and pay the client 400 CZK in cash if the payment is successful.
Cash registers
In order to use payment solutions effectively, it makes sense to connect them either to your internal systems or, for example, to cash registers. To do this, you need to connect the terminal to these systems. There are several such protocols from different payment providers, so it is important to choose the right terminal so that you can connect it to your systems in the future.
Alternative payment methods
Today, accepting only card payments is no longer enough. It is necessary to offer customers a variety of payment methods, such as cash, bank account payments, cryptocurrencies, meal vouchers and loyalty cards. For clients from other continents, for example, their payment methods such as Alipay or WeChat Pay.
