We have written several times recently about the influence of Visa and Mastercard card schemes, American companies. We have written about how Europe and other continents are trying to find their own solutions, their own alternatives. But it is not just about them. Today we will give you an example of how companies like Stripe (one of the largest providers of not only payment solutions for entrepreneurs) are pounding innovation and technology. Although Stripe does not provide its services in Europe, it makes sense to read about what you could expect from your payment providers in the future.
Stripe announced 288 product changes at its annual conference in San Francisco, including expanding agentic commerce (purchasing is done by an artificial intelligence agent) to Google Gemini (Google's AI solution) and opening the Link AI wallet to agents who can shop on behalf of users.
What's new about it?
Stripe Sessions is the annual showcase where the payments infrastructure is heading. This year's edition is groundbreaking for three reasons. First, Google has joined the Agentic Commerce Suite — alongside ChatGPT (provided by an AI called OpenAI), Copilot (AI from Microsoft) and Facebook (from the Meta group), who have already been using Stripe's integrated shopping processes since last September. A merchant connected to Stripe can now sell directly inside Gemini and Google AI Mode, without redirecting to their own website. Quince, Fanatics and JD Sports were among the first to jump on board; Kate Spade, Best Buy and Coach have been there for a long time. These are large American retail chains.
Secondly, Stripe Link — their digital wallet with over 250 million users by its own count — is now usable with an AI agent. The agent gets a disposable card when making a purchase, but the payment itself must be confirmed by the account owner. CEO Patrick Collison described it as a re-platforming of the entire economy: „Agents will be autonomous economic actors responsible for most internet transactions — and they will spend faster than we do.“
Thirdly, streaming payments — real-time per-token billing, built on Stripe’s blockchain called Tempo and stablecoins. This is aimed at AI startups that currently charge for APIs based on tokens consumed and struggle with the speed of standard card settlements.
In addition, Stripe has opened up acceptance to US merchants stablecoins and Brazilian Pix (instant payment system), Radar (anti-fraud tool) has been expanded to include token theft detection (Stripe, according to its own figures, blocked 3.3 million risky registrations per month), and Stripe Treasury is now available in 15 currencies with 2% cashback and integration with ChatGPT.
What does this mean for you?
For Czech market The most interesting news is that agentic commerce is moving from the hypothetical phase to the product phase. If you use Stripe in other markets, for example, this means a potentially new distribution channel — your catalog could appear in Gemini, ChatGPT, or Copilot's response when a user says "buy me black sneakers size 43". Integration details for Czech SKUs and currencies are not yet publicly confirmed (to be verified).
For gastro and brick-and-mortar stores in the Czech Republic nothing changes from this whirlwind of announcements — Stripe only marginally competes with SumUp, myPOS, Comgate POS or KB SmartPay in retail acquiring. The trend is more interesting: pay-by-link, instant payments and integration with mobile wallets are moving from purely online to physical terminals (MoneyGram is already using Stripe technology for new kiosk terminals).
For freelancers and SaaS companies In the Czech Republic, for those invoicing in foreign currencies, Stripe Treasury (with 15 currencies and free instant US transfers) and streaming payments may be an easier route than a classic Czech transaction account. Stripe's opening to US stablecoins also indicates where the economy is moving — although in the EU we are more likely to see unification via instant SEPA and a digital euro than stablecoin rails.
What should you bring?
- If you are an e-shop on Stripe, check out Agentic Commerce Suite. Documentation on how to make the SKU catalog available to AI platforms will be available soon.
- Evaluate whether Link wallet makes sense for your purchasing process. 250+ million users reduce friction in sales conversion — especially for returning customers.
- If you are billing for AI tokens, look at streaming payments. Real-time billing will eliminate the cashflow gap that most AI SaaS have today.
- Keep an eye out for when similar features will be added in the Czech Republic and the EU. Stripe is available here, but agentic checkout is currently tied to American AI platforms.
- Remember safety. Token theft is a new fraud vector — if you are using AI agents, make sure your provider has rate-limiting and fraud detection.
